In a pivotal moment for the textile industry, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) organized the Bharat Tex 2025 roadshow in London from November 27 to 29, 2024. This landmark event is a testament to India’s growing influence in the global textile market and its commitment to fostering international partnerships.
A High-Profile Gathering
The roadshow, one of the largest in AEPC’s overseas initiatives, drew over 100 attendees, including prominent representatives from leading brands, retail chains, and research organizations. Delegates included Ms. Shubhra, Trade Advisor for India’s Ministry of Textiles; Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman AEPC; Shri Premal Udani, Chairman of AEPC’s Export Promotion Committee; and Mr. Roger Gilmartin of Gherzi Consulting.
These dignitaries and industry leaders came together to discuss how India and the UK, two vibrant economies, could collaborate to shape the future of global textiles.
India’s Textile Growth Story
Ms. Shubhra, in her keynote address, highlighted the transformative growth of India’s textile sector, driven by strong government support and private-sector innovation. Initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and PM MITRA Parks have positioned India as a globally competitive textile hub.
She noted that India’s focus on sustainability, coupled with the UK’s dedication to responsible sourcing and circular fashion, could create a resilient supply chain benefiting both nations. This collaboration emphasizes a shared vision of advancing sustainability, driving innovation, and improving market access for eco-friendly textile solutions.
Strengthening Trade Relations
Shri Sudhir Sekhri, Chairman AEPC, described the UK as a trusted partner in the textile trade. As the sixth-largest apparel importer globally, the UK imported textiles worth $20.27 billion in 2023, with India contributing $1.2 billion, securing a 6.14% market share.
Highlighting the growth in exports, Shri Sekhri remarked, “India’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG) exports to the UK grew by 9.4% in the April–October 2024 period compared to the previous year. This reflects the strength of our partnership and the demand for Indian craftsmanship in the global market.”
He further noted the appeal of India’s eco-friendly textiles, saying, “Iconic UK brands like Marks & Spencer, Primark, and Burberry, along with fast-fashion leaders like Asos and Boohoo, value India’s commitment to quality and sustainability. These values will be the cornerstone of Bharat Tex 2025.”
Focus on Sustainability and Innovation
Bharat Tex 2025 will highlight India’s advancements in eco-friendly materials, closed-loop manufacturing, and innovative waste management practices. These principles resonate deeply with the UK’s sustainability goals and reflect a shared commitment to a greener future.
The upcoming event will showcase the entire textile value chain, with a special emphasis on handicrafts, apparel machinery, chemicals, and dyes. Bharat Tex 2025 builds on the success of its first edition and is set to be held at two venues: Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi (February 14–17, 2025) and the India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida (February 12–15, 2025).
Strategic Meetings and Future Collaborations
During the roadshow, the delegation met Shri Vikram Doraiswamy, India’s High Commissioner to the UK, to discuss trade, joint ventures, and the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations. The High Commissioner assured the delegation that UK textile stakeholders were eager to deepen their engagement with India.
The delegation also held one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders to explore collaborative opportunities. These discussions focused on incorporating sustainable materials, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing India’s reputation as a leader in eco-friendly textile production.
Shri Premal Udani, Chairman of AEPC’s Export Promotion Committee, presented an overview of Bharat Tex 2025, emphasizing its focus on sustainable growth and innovation.

AEPC envisions Bharat Tex 2025 as a platform to strengthen India’s position as a global leader in textiles. It aims to celebrate the shared values of quality, sustainability, and innovation between India and the UK.
